Tuesday Evening Mindfulness Meditation and Compassion Course
April - June 2018
This 8-week course will help you to learn and practice mindfulness in every day life. It is suitable for most people, including those who would like to learn additional ways to manage long-term health conditions. The focus will be on learning how to ground yourself in the present moment and connect with an inner sense of stillness and calm. The mindfulness practices learned in this course will enable you to understand your reactivity, recognise and step back from negative thinking, relate more whole-heartedly to others and to approach the challenges of life with greater ease and self-compassion. The course is an ideal way to learn a range of mindfulness meditation practices and cultivate kindness and compassion towards oneself and others, step-by-step, in a supportive environment. It is also suitable for those who would like to reconnect with or refresh their meditation practice.
You can watch a YouTube video of mindfulness meditation on BBC Breakfast hereto help you decide if mindfulness is right for you. This video is now over 5 years old but it gives a good idea of what it might be like to be in a mindfulness class and the benefits of learning to meditate. The video focuses on the benefits of meditation for a woman with persistent (chronic) pain and the reporter who lives a busy and stressful life.
The maximum number of people in the class will be 12.
The course will be running in two parts.
Each class runs on Tuesdays from 6:30pm – 8:30pm and the course will be running on the following dates:
Class 0: 24th April 2018 (Orientation session - essential)
Class 1: 1st May 2018
Class 2: 8th May 2018
Class 3: 15th May 2018
Class 4: 22nd May 2018
There is a one week break in the course for half term and then classes resume on Tuesday 5th June at the same time and at the same venue.
Class 5: 5th June 2018
Class 6: 12th June 2018
Class 7: 19th June 2018
Class 8: 26th June 2018
You are encouraged, as far as possible, to attend all of the classes, as each builds on the one that precedes it and the course 'unfolds' gradually over the eight-week period. As an essential part of the learning process, and in order to obtain the most from the course, you will also be encouraged to meditate on a daily basis (you will be provided with access to both longer and shortened versions of the guided meditations). This however, is entirely up to you, and there will be no pressure to do so should you decide not to.
