Mindful Walking in Selsey at Low Tide Saturday 2nd September 2017 at 3:30pm
****PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS EVENT IS NOW FULLY BOOKED****
- Saturday 2nd September 2017 at 3:30pm -
Mindful walking on an expanse of beach at low tide is accompanied by an audio guide. The guide consists of a series of suggestions and invitations to enhance your participation, in addition to some short pieces of music and spoken word. We hope that this guide will pique your interest and bring a sense of freshness and curiosity to the experience of the body and walking in an inter-tidal space. This walk is not about reaching a destination as much as bringing to the foreground of awareness a visceral sense of the body and the particularity of place.
If you have walked with us before please consider joining us again. The audio guide may be the same (although in reality the materials that make up the audio guide will have degraded since you last walked) but nothing else will be. Many of the cells in your body will have died and been replaced by new ones. Your frame of mind and state of heart are new in each moment. Your experience since that time will have left its trace on your brain. The sea will have rolled in and rolled back out over the sand many times since you last walked this shoreline, the weather pattern will be different and the world will have moved on.
"A story is told again and again, and yet each new telling is a new event"
- Ursula K Le Guin -
We will be meeting at 3:30pm at Marine Gardens car park (on the sea front, at the end of Hillfield Road) Selsey PO20 0JL. The walking time is approximately 1 hour.
We are keen to make this event as inclusive as possible and it is open to all. The walking itself is gentle overall and you are actively encouraged to choose the way in which you participate in the walk to accommodate your body as it is on that day, and in that moment.
Please feel free to bring along any walking aids you may need to assist you, bearing in mind that the surface we will be walking on can be very variable. Walking, standing, and some brief periods of sitting and lying down will be on a mostly sandy beach although there is usually a short but fairly steep bank of shingle to negotiate to get down to the beach itself. Please wear clothing appropriate for these activities and for the weather on the day. The walk will go ahead in the event of bad weather!
MP3 players with headphones and pre-loaded with the audio guide and ready for use are supplied on the day.
There is a £3 suggested donation per person for the walk.
There has been a high demand for this walk, our last of 2017, and over half of the available places are now taken. If you would like to make a booking for more than one person you should include the name and contact details (name, email and phone number) of each individual that you wish to reserve a place for.
